What you should know about Mornington Golf Course
For those who know Mornington the club started its life on a tract of land named Cook’s paddock behind the vogue anti Hotel (on Nepean Highway) and stretched from the impaired railway to Beleura Hill Road. It was moved to the Mornington Racecourse in 1925 until behind the Military took occupancy of the Racecourse, obviously creating difficulties for play.
One of the easier holes on the course unless your above the hole when the greens are running fast. A brief to mid iron (depending on wind) to a important green with bunkers on the right. The fairway which slopes left to a large area of rough and tea tree, allows only a insignificant landing area up the righthandside. One of the most picturesque holes on the course with panoramic views of the bay from both tee and green. A blunt hole which is reachable in two for the long hitter aim up the righthandside of the fairway to avoid trouble. Behind negotiating the potent dogleg right which is protected by large trees, you are still faced with a challenging shot up a steep slope to the relatively small green. For the second shot, short right a bunker awaits, long and left another chance to test your fate with the water. Either lay up short of the fairway bunker for a mid to lengthy iron approach or take on the corner. A relatively brief shot to a large green should not prove too much of a defy if you can put the bunkers and gully in front out of your mind. A straight tee shot will set you up nicely for your approach to the tiered green. If you can keep your ball straight the only trouble is the bunker short left of the green, or if you hit it long on a Saturday afternoon, the gallery will have sufficient of advice!
